Musing About Anti-Worker Politicians Seeking to Nullify OSHA
Anti-worker politicians have long since sought to erode worker rights and protections. In the 1940s, it was right-to-work (with renewed vigor in the 2010s), attacks on the National Labor Relations Act, specifically the National Labor Relations Board, and now they seek to abolish or nullify OSHA.
Yes, you read that right: Nullify OSHA.
Representative Andy Biggs, a Republican from Arizona, has introduced H.R.86 — 119th Congress (2025-2026), which is called the NOSHA Act, which stands for “Nullify Occupational Safety and Health Act.”
They use the word nullify – but abolish can be found in the body of the bill.
I hesitate to be partisan here. After all, Democrats have had majorities several times in both various states and at the federal level, where legislation like right-to-work was not dealt with (except Michigan – kudos to the politicians there) or other pro-worker legislation (think PRO Act and others).
However, all worker erosions seem to stem from Republicans, who are bought and paid for by politicians by corporations – and Democrats, who are also bought and paid for but do not stop anti-worker legislation.
Why?
Because they are two wings of the same bird.
In other words, Republicans appear anti-worker, and Democrats seem to be indifferent.
Now, for my part, I believe this helps drive home the NEED for greater worker solidarity. There is no power like that of workers who stand together and say “no more.” As the old saying goes,
“No army can withstand the strength of an idea whose time has come.”
Victor Hugo
Tell me you are anti-worker without telling me you are anti-worker. We desperately need greater worker solidarity. If you aren’t in a union, you should form one. If you are in a union, you NEED to educate your brothers and sisters about the danger of waiting for politicians to protect you. They are bought and paid for, part of the Corporate Oligarchy, and do NOT represent you. Rally around those who are standing tall, sounding the alarm, and – this is very important – are not just complaining but also doing something about it. Those who spread the word, formulate a plan, and seek to elevate workers’ rights – THOSE are the people we should seek to promote.
